Prior to this class, I've never heard of Diigo. Never seen a commercial or advertisement about it. I've learned how to annotate and take notes in a way that'll benefit not only myself, but anyone else who is in the group I'm posting those links to. They can find resources in a well-organized and efficient way. It's an efficient tool to use in a classroom because students can log on and include links and notes to websites that were helpful to them. It enhances everyone's learning processes. Diigo can work outside the classroom, and it shares a similar purpose: finding resources in an efficient way. It can be for students, for coworkers, for team members, or even yourself. 



Technology/Teacher professional development

There's this website called PBS Teacherline that can help teachers stay informed about technology trends. You can look at the courses by subject to narrow down your search and make it more specific. This website can benefit first-time or experienced teachers. What's cool about this website is that there's constant updates so the information presented stays relevant. And it's reassuring to know that PBS is a reliable source, therefore you never have to question its validity.

Blog post #3 ELA? FSA? What's with all the acronyms? For those who don't know, ELA stands for "English Language Arts Standards" and the idea behind it is to prepare students for life outside the classroom? Is it effective? Well, that depends on who you ask. There are standards in place for grades K-12, which each grade having its own set. They gradually become more complex, the older the student gets. There's more required of them. Taking a glance at the kindergarten standards (who doesn't love those kiddos?) we can see that they're expected to "explore a variety of digital tools," which is probably referring to something that's easier for their little curious minds to comprehend. They're expected to know how to paint on the paint app found on most computers, if not all of them. If I were a kindergarten teacher, would I be able to show students how to use these tools? I mean, I understand how to use the paint app. It isn't hard

Blog post #1 Why use technology in the classroom for grades K-12? There's a multitude of reasons. If you think about it, the times have changed tremendously between when your parents went to school, when their parents went to school, and so on. In my opinion, to teach effectively, executive school boards need to keep up with the times. For example, it'd be odd to stroll into a classroom today and all of a sudden, there's chalkboards, overhead projectors, or  see students watching a movie from a VHS tape on one of those thick TVs resting on a mobile stand. There's a certain responsibility when it comes to finding relevant resources and technologies for use in the classroom.  I also believe that technology, in a way, keeps students engaged. It's similar to an infant's need for stimulation at an early age. In a show, the colors and sounds are captivating to them. It aids in their development.
